My very own account

Last night I attended a LinkedIn session held by the Princeton Rotary. I figured, since I have been cracking down and learning all that I can about the subject, I might as well give it a try myself. So last night, after the very well done presentation, I created my own account. For me it was a perfect decision because I have been out networking and have accumulated a stack of business cards. So, after my account was finished I proceeded to find my new found friends on LinkedIn. This has really helped organize me since 90% of the people were there and now my roladex is online and portable. Not only that by I can also now check out who everyone else is connected to. To drive home the point, take the time and set up an account. It's well worth the hour your going to spend and you never know who's inside that 6-degrees of seperation!

Community Involvement

One of the things I have been testing out is how getting involved with your community helps to grow the business. I have made an effort to get involved with our local chamber of commerce and it has proven to be quite successful. Reaching out to the community allows you to meet others in a similar position and generates leads and ideas. Not only have I met some great people but I have gotten some great ideas as well. For instance, this morning I attended our chambers business breakfast and listened to a speaker talk about Google Adwords. This honestly was above me. I know almost nothing about the subject, but it motivated me to research it. If anyone has some good resources on the subject please pass them my way.
My seminar on LinkedIn yesterday was helpful. It reinforced many things for me and also allowed me to generate some ideas for what I want to do to our page. I'm thinking of upgrading to the paid version of LinkedIn. Does anyone have any thoughts are feelings about how it works and it's advantages?

So today has been a busy Monday. I'm a trying a seminar by a friend, Alice Heiman. She runs these webinars that teach you how to better use LinkedIn for your business. I'll definitely let you know how it turns out. I feel pretty comfortable on LinkedIn but I'm sure that there are many things that I don't know. I'm also reading a book right now, "Work the System". I find it really interesting, a little wordy, but definitely worth the time. I teaches you how to step back and look at your life and business as a group of systems that should be able to function efficiently with a little tweaking from you. When I finish the book I will follow their steps in documenting our systems. Hopefully this will help our business run better without Scott and I constantly putting on the "fires". I'll keep you updated on that!

Introductions

I feel as if I have just entered the "cool" party and no one knows who I am. So, let me do the polite thing, introduce myself. My name is Sarah Mcloughlin and I work for a company called The Multi-Media Group. My dad has owned and operated the company for the last 8 years, solo and now I have jumped on the bandwagon to help out. We are a management consulting firm with an emphasis in sales and growing the business. My father mainly deals with managing our many clients and I have taken on the daunting task of becoming an expert in the field of social media. I also am looking to expand our company and promote our upcoming book. I'm hoping that this blog will become an educational tool for those of you who have been ravaging the web looking and trying out new tools in the social media world. I having been experimenting with new things in our community (Princeton, NJ) and on the web. Some things I find to be a huge success, others a waste of time. So follow me on my adventures of growing the business.
